In my illustrious writing career, I’ve won one award, The Maggie from the Georgia Romance Writers.
Due to a deadline, I was unable to attend the conference and ceremony where the award was given, and to be honest, I kind of forgot about it. When the call came late on a Saturday night, I suddenly remembered.
I ran screaming around the house like a kid, “I won, I won, I won!”
But to be honest, I’ve never won an award I wanted to win, or thought I deserved to win. I’ve not even been nominated or chosen to be a finalist in half the awards I coveted.
Often I hear writers say, “I really needed this award. It’s been a hard year.”
“Yeah, well sit down bucko and let’s trade stories.”
