I’m reading the Book of Daniel during this month. Daily. All 12 chapters.
Daniel is one of my favorite books in the Bible.
Daniel is one of my heroes. I desire to emulate him.
Listen to this…
Daniel and his friends were ten times better than all of the magicians and enchanters in Babylon.
Oh, to be like Daniel.
When Nebuchadnezzar ordered the decree to all the wise men should die for not revealing and interpreting his dream, Daniel spoke to the commander of the king’s guard with wisdom and tact!
He’s about to be killed with all other other wise men but response with wisdom, discretion and discernment.
Oh, to be like Daniel.
Daniel distinguished himself in public and political service because he had an excellent spirit. His enemies said, “We can’t accuse him of anything because he’s faithful, with no negligence or corruption to be found in him.”
Oh, to b like Daniel.
Daniel set his heart toward the Lord before he was taken captive into Babylon.
So when captivity and hard times came, he was able to maintain his heart and hope in God.
He refused to compromise. Refused to defile himself with the King’s food.
And God honored him.
Yet, even going into the lion’s den, he never railed against God or questioned His sovereignty or provision or motives!
Oh, to be like Daniel.
Far too often I’m willing to bend the way of the world, or the way of my weakness, or sin, instead of challenging what I feel, or see, or experience with the power of the Word and who HE is.
Oh, to be like Daniel.
Ultimately, we are to be like Jesus who suffered silently on the way to the Cross.
But Daniel is a sign post to us that mere mortal men can walk with a pure and devoted heart to the Lord while living in the midst of “Babylon.”
Oh, to be like Daniel.
