If you were to head over to my neck of the woods, I’d tell you to make sure to visit the lovely uptown area. (Our lovely skyline is pictured above, courtesy of my daughter’s photo taking prowess.)
For a long time when I was growing up, it was called “downtown” and it was not somewhere anyone went voluntarily. But a few years ago Charlotte got the idea that that needed changing and now there’s lots of cultural type things to do. Concerts and theater and artsy stuff abound. No matter when you’re coming, you’re bound to find something to do downtown. Ahem. Uptown.
Like Discovery Place for the kids.
Or our wonderful public library complex for the kids, called Imaginon.
The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center always has stuff going on. I’ve seen Mamma Mia with my daughter there and Come Fly With Me with my son in the past year. A few years ago I got to see Chris Botti in concert. Now that was a good concert and a better-than-dinner-and-a-movie date night!
The Epicentre is fairly new and has lots to do. I hear the movie theater is top notch.
If you’re a NASCAR fan, then there’s the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It’s located near the Epicentre.
You can take a Segway tour of the area and hear about the history of Charlotte. I have friends who did this and loved it.
There’s also a ghost tour. It seems this is de rigueur for any southern city these days.
So come on down– I mean up– to the heart of Charlotte. But from what I hear you might want to wait until after the Democratic National Convention is over. I heard on the news recently that 3000 extra cops from all over the nation are coming in to preside over the state of things.
On second thought, what’s going on in your neck of the woods?
