You’re probably familiar with Isaiah 40:31, “but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength”.  But there may be more to understanding this verse than you realize.

First, the Hebrew word translated “wait” literally means “to be braided together with”.  This verse is not speaking of passive waiting, but of actively pursuing intimacy with God.

Even more important, this verse must be considered in context to be fully understood. In verses 25-26 God proclaims His awesomeness.

Verses 28-29 He explains how wise and capable He is.  Sandwiched between, God asks a question in verse 27; essentially “Why are you saying following Me isn’t working?”

To paraphrase Isaiah 40:25-31, God is saying, “I’m awesome, but you aren’t experiencing my awesomeness because you aren’t being braided together with me.”

It’s a promise, those who wait on the Lord do renew their strength.  So are you busy waiting, or too busy to wait?
