Have You Decorated For Fall?

In Florida, fall is a hard season.

Because we don’t really have a fall.

Today was in the low 80s. Tomorrow more of the same.

Trees still flourish with green leaves. They won’t change until late November or December.

The evenings are cooling off. Tonight is supposed to be a chilly 65. Brrrr!

This year it doesn’t feel like fall to me. Doesn’t feel like football season.

Which makes me sad because I love this season!

So, I bought some decorations.

My husband and I don’t have children. We don’t live near family. It’s really easy to not “do,” you know? Not create traditions. Not celebrate seasons. With the exception of Christmas, naturally.

But even then, my decorating begins and ends with the fake tree.

Might be time for a real tree this year. Might be time to decorate like I mean it.

Do you decorate? What kind of traditions do you have?

I think it’s important to decorate, celebrate, express beauty.

The God of the universe does. He created the fall foliage. He gave very specific instructions to the Jews about celebrating. Even about beauty.

On the other hand, we often take entertainment, game playing, leisure time too seriously.

We play when we should be working! When we should be celebrating with others.

Mostly what struck me about this fall season was living in the moment.

I want to enjoy each warm day. Enjoy the slight thinning in the breeze.

Anticipate the cool nights.

Buy a pumpkin. Bake something so the house smells like cinnamon.

Live in the moment.

How about you?

  1. Fall wreath on front door & in family rm, pilgrim dolls around, pumpkins on front porch & plan to get Mums to set w/them. I love fall time.

  2. I don’t usually, but my sweet 19 year old daughter did and it’s great. A paper garland she made of pumpkins, ghosts, plastic spiders and a spider web just inside our front door. A beautiful collection of mums outside the door. I live in Utah, and fall is definitely here.
