What’s Your Word For 2014?

Rachel Hauck, Princess Ever AfterComing out from under a pretty rigorous deadline and thinking forward to the year.

Can you believe it’s February 2014 already?

How’s it going so far?

I don’t normally pick a “word for the year.”

I’ve had one word for the past 3 years, JOY!

Why change?

But I think this year I’ll add perseverance.

Persevere in joy. Persevere in love. In peace. In discipline.

Joy doesn’t always come because we want.

We have to pursue it. Same with peace. We have to tug on it sometimes. Go for it, you know.

I love the Amplified Version of John 14:27 where Jesus said, “I give you my peace.”

The Amplified adds the words “bequeath.”

Jesus bequeathed HIS peace to us. The peace of heaven. And considering He is the Prince of Peace, there’s no way peace cannot be readily available to us.

But sometimes joy, peace, even love, require warfare. We have to go for them, meditate on them, have those scripture verses readily available to pray and speak over yourself and to the heavens.

So for me, the word I’m adding this year is perseverance.

I want to be faithful to the truth of God’s Word over my own feelings and/or experience.

It’s key for us to live the Word. To be transformed — utterly changed — by renewing our minds.

And that requires perseverance.

What are you lacking? Joy, peace, patience? Are you willing to fight through and get it?

We get lazy. We think a pray and a wish should get it ALL for us. And sometimes it does.

But sometimes it requires us going for it over and over, day after day, even moment after moment.

Build your spiritual muscle. 🙂

So the word for me this year is perseverance to joy, peace, and loving well.

What about you?

  1. I love coming and reading your blog. My 2014 word is communication – As I studied it and thought of other possible words, this word kept circling back. I love that it encompasses the word sharing. This words feels familiar to me, not because I’m a good communicator, but because one part of good communication uses words, and words are what books are made up of.
*Communicate – a sharing of ideas, information, news or ideas
*sharing – have a portion of something with
    another
    *listen – give one’s attention
*observation – the process of observing carefully
I have already noticed a change, especially in how I listen.
Hope you have a joyful day. =)

Kathi, That’s so great. I love it. Communication is key. I could bump up on that myself. Do a bit more communicating. Listening! Observing. We are so quick to speak, aren’t we? I’m re upping my commitment to listen more, listen well.

      Love,
      Rachel
